Role of Graffiti

The graffiti is a form of non-verbal communication that has come gaining a great power. It form of expression, is used by many people who feel a disagreement with their government or feel that their rights are being violated. This new trend can be seen in many of the current countries and it is used in each country in different ways.

Colombia: In Colombia, the increase of this practice has been more and more well-known across the years. A clear evidence of this is the article written by Tom Feiling where he assures that on his return to Bogotá the number of grafities in the streets had increased. These graffites are used in order to show the corruption and the discontent of the citizens of Bogota with the situation of the country.

Buenos Aires: In Buenos Aires, citizens have the freedom to make graffities with few restrictions, since this practice is not considered vandalism but a form of expression of their citizens. That’s the reason why the government promotes this practice. Whence, the unique thing that you need to make a graffiti is the approval of the owner. The graffities in this country are used for different reasons, either to protest against the state or to support an environmental cause.

In Honduras, this is a practice considered criminal. But, due to increase of corruption that has suffered Honduras inside the police and army, persons like "Urban Maeztro" use this modality to advertise the heinous acts of violence, extortion, kidnapping and illegal detention committed by officials. For this reason, the use graffities to generate social awareness among citizens.

In Brazil, although make a graffiti is an illegal act, it is recognized by the amazing work that graffiti artists from Brazil create. These graffities are used to show  the discontent  of the Citizen againts corruption and bad governance in Brazil. An example of this is Vitché, which began fighting for protection of nature, but ultimately he is fighting against corruption.

Bangkok's 'Mexican' Gangsters

Thai gangsters are a group of people who want to look like the mexican gangsters. They try to appropriate of this subculture due to they feel identified with their way of dressing and their way of life. But it is necessary to clarify that in spite of Thais should admire this subculture, they are not participants of criminal or violent acts. They live a common and current life, with employments like teachers, policemen or bureaucrats. This style of life is like a hobby, and for this reason they just want to have funny moments with their friends and in some cases they fight  against the corruption in the society. This group show us that in spite of a subculture is presided over by a predominant culture, they can have their own tastes or their own thinkings.

Racism against Afrocolombians

The time when the human thought that a race was better than the others has ended. The idea of racism had remained in the mind of people for generations, however this thinking has transformed. Nowadays it’s not common to see a direct attack or a subjugation of one race ahead another, but we can see the exclusion of some races of the social circles, by means of the verbal or psychological mistreatment. Anyway the “new idea of racism” is still wrong. It’s important to consider that no matter your skin color, socio – economic situation, religión, your physical caracteristics or your ethnic heritage, the only thing that is really valuable is that we are all humans with feelings, dreams and desires of a life thrives. We all born in the same way and we are basically equals at God’s eyes. Considering this, is necessary that all the people in a country or in the world have the same rights without racial exclusions. Also we all deserve the same opportunities without distinction. Finally, I want to mention that God said that all the humanity, men and women, are brothers and sisters because he is our father.
